Apple filling:
3 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
3 tbsp flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon (https://amzn.to/4h7jBcw)
1/2 tsp nutmeg (https://amzn.to/4hejcoV)
Shortbread base:
1/4 cup margarine
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla (https://amzn.to/4h1YLvc)
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup flour
Crumble Mixture:
3/4 cup brown sugar (https://amzn.to/4jfhwNM)
2/3 cup melted margarine
Cream the margarine until light and fluffy. Add the sugar, vanilla, and salt. Mix well. Add the flour and blend. Press the mixture into a parchment paper lined, greased 8x8 pan (https://amzn.to/40fT9qi) and bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Remove from oven.
While the base is cooking, peel the apples and slice them thinly. Add the flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg and mix well.
In a separate bowl (https://amzn.to/3PzDZr7), blend together the ingredients for the crumble mixture.
Place a layer of the crumble on the shortbread bottom followed by a layer of apples. Repeat these layers one more time and end with a layer of the crumble. Bake at 350 for about 25-30 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crumble is golden brown. Remove from oven, let cool and then place in the fridge to set. Enjoy with ice cream for dessert!!
